يقولُ سَلا فمنِ المدنفُ

يقولُ سَلا فمنِ المدنفُ

ومن عينهُ أبداً تذرِفُ

ومن عينهُ أبداً تذرِفُ

He says, “He has ceased to love”—then who is the lovesick one?

The one whose eyelids are constantly wet,

And whose eye is forever shedding tears?

And whose eyes are always shedding tears,

ومن قلبُهُ قلقٌ خافِقٌ

ومن قلبُهُ قلقٌ خافِقٌ

إليكَ وأحشاؤهُ ترجِفُ

إليكَ وأحشاؤهُ ترجِفُ

And whose heart is restless, fluttering

With a fluttering, anxious heart,

toward you, while his entrails tremble?

And trembling insides towards you,

فذلك طولُ الهوى شافِعٌ

فذلك طولُ الهوى شافِعٌ

بعبرتهِ لكَ مستعطفُ

بعبرتهِ لكَ مستعطفُ

So he, throughout love’s course, intercedes,

Such longing intercedes for him,

with his tears, imploring your compassion.

With his tears beseeching you,

ومن أنت في كل حالاته

ومن أنت في كل حالاته

على قلبهِ بالهوى مشرِفُ

على قلبهِ بالهوى مشرِفُ

And who is he, in whose every state you

And you who are in all his states,

hold sway over his heart through love?

Reigning supreme in his heart with love.
