لدنٌsupple يكادُalmost يحلهُdissolves him النظرُthe gaze

إنif يمشhe walks قلتُI said الشمسthe sun طالعةٌrising
لماwhen بداhe appeared للعينto the eye أوor قمرُa moon
If he walks, I say, “The sun is rising,”
when he appears to the eye—or, “A moon.”
تقفُlinger العيونُthe eyes علىupon محاسنهِhis beauties
بجميعِwith all ماthat which فيهاis in them لهُfor him وَطَرُdesire
Eyes linger over his beauties,
with all the longing for him they hold.
فلهُso his is الهَوىlove مِنهاfrom them وعلَّand may لهfor him
ولهنand for them منهfrom him الدمعtears والسهرُand sleeplessness
So their love is his—and may it be his—
while theirs from him are tears and sleeplessness.
