ولماand when رأيتُI saw الدمعَthe tears غاصَsank إلىinto الحشاthe body's inner depths
ولما رأيتُ الدمعَ غاصَ إلى الحشا
وأنand that فؤاديmy heart منof دموعيmy tears فيin بحرِa sea
وأن فؤادي من دموعي في بحرِ
And when I saw the tears had sunk into my inner depths,
When I saw tears welling up, hidden beneath my eyelids,
and that my heart lay in a sea of my tears,
And my heart drowning in a sea of my own tears,
نظرتI looked إلىat عينيَّmy two eyes لاno ماءَwater فيهماin them both
نظرت إلى عينيَّ لا ماءَ فيهما
فأيقنتso I became certain أنthat الدمعَthe tears تحتهماbeneath them both يجريflows
فأيقنت أن الدمعَ تحتهما يجري
I looked at my two eyes: there was no water in them;
I glanced at my eyes and found no water in them -
so I knew for certain that tears were flowing beneath them.
So I knew the tears were flowing underneath.
فلولاand had it not been that استبانَbecame apparent الدمعُthe tears فيin مضمرِthe hidden recess الحشاthe body's inner depths
فلولا استبانَ الدمعُ في مضمرِ الحشا
تفجرَburst forth أنهارُrivers الدموعof tears منfrom الصدرِthe chest
تفجرَ أنهارُ الدموع من الصدرِ
And had the tears not appeared in the hidden depths of my breast,
If the tears didn't show through the creases of my eyelids,
rivers of tears would have burst forth from my chest.
Rivers of tears would have gushed forth from my heart.
علىdespite أنthat قلبيmy heart ينشفُdries up الدمعَthe tears حرهُits heat
على أن قلبي ينشفُ الدمعَ حرهُ
وأينand where بقاياremnants الدمعِof tears فيin وَهَجِthe glow الجَمرِthe embers
وأين بقايا الدمعِ في وَهَجِ الجَمرِ
Yet the heat of my heart dries up the tears—
Yet my heart's heat dries up the tears -
and where could remnants of tears be amid the glow of embers?
Where are the remnants of tears in the blaze of embers?
