And one who calls on sorrow for tears, as though they were
And seeking help in sorrow, tears as though
bewildered on his cheek because they cannot climb it.
On the cheek not easing their confused flow

Whenever one steady shower of them lifts, there glisten
If some roll off, fresh ones begin, endless,
the first drops of another, whose last drops never come.
As though they have no end, still on they go

He lets his eyes behold tears, until it is as though he,
He sees his eyelashes so tear-wet that they
as they pour from his eyes, were gazing into water.
Peer from his eyes into the water below

And he gazes from beneath the tears with an eye
And from below his tears he looks with an eye
in whose pupil longing gazes, and so it is bewitching.
Whose pupil passion has bewitched, a sorcerer
