نِ فلِم وكلتَ بي السُّقما

Ah, you with smiling teeth,

O you with the smiling teeth,

so why have you set sickness upon me?

why have you burdened me with illness,

رَخِيَّ البالِ لا تحس

بُ في الإضرارِ بي إثما

Carefree, you do not consider

carefree one with an easy mind, do not feel

harming me a sin.

that doing me harm is a sin,

أذبتَ القلبَ لم تُبقِ

عليهِ فارحَمِ الجِسما

You melted the heart and did not spare

you have melted my heart and left

it; so have mercy on the body.

no compassion for my body,

فَما لي مِنكَ إِلا زَفر

رةٌ أو مُقلةٌ تَدمى

رةٌ أو مُقلةٌ تَدمى

For I have nothing from you but a sigh

so I have from you only a sigh

or an eye that bleeds.
