Love has taxed my heart to its utmost limit,

And longing has worn me threadbare, though I was once new.

O my reproacher, if you tasted some of the pain of separation,

You would find it bitter and hard for you to bear.

Of what has befallen my eye, this should suffice you: it

Has grown accustomed to tears and allied itself with sleeplessness.

If a lover were to die of the sin of remembrance,

Wary of union with him, he would die a martyr.
