أضرَّhas harmed بطرفهِto his eyes السهدُsleeplessness
وأنحلَand has wasted جسمَهُhis body الكمَدُgrief
Sleeplessness has harmed his eyes,
The wakefulness has hurt his eyelid,
And grief has wasted his body.
And grief has wasted his body,
وأقلقهُand has troubled him منfrom الزفراتِthe sighs
والأحزانِand the sorrows ماwhat يجِدُhe feels
And he is troubled by the sighs
And sighs and sorrows disturb him,
And sorrows he feels.
More than he can bear,
يطيرُflies فؤادُهُhis heart شوقاًwith longing
فتحبسهُso it holds it back عليهِupon him يدُa hand
His heart flies with longing,
His heart flies with yearning,
But a hand holds it back within him.
But a hand holds it back,
أماis there not لضنىfor a wasting sickness أضرَّhas harmed بِقلto his heart (word begins)
بهِcompletion of 'his heart' وبجسمهِand to his body أمدُan end
Is there not, for the wasting sickness that has harmed his heart
Does the ardour of love not hurt
And his body, an end?
A heart and a body without end?
