تياقٍ غابَ واحدهُ
Blamed for weeping is one filled with
My brother cries, alone,
longing, whose only beloved is absent.
Lost, wandering astray.
فهاتواso bring منsomeone who يعللsoothes مقeyes (opening fragment)
فهاتوا من يعلل مق
لتيهhis two eyes (closing fragment) أوor يساعدهhelps him
لتيه أو يساعده
Then bring someone to soothe
Is there none who can mend
his two eyes, or help him
His broken heart today?
إلىto الشكوىlamentation وطالand lasted long بهwith him السthe sickness (opening fragment)
إلى الشكوى وطال به الس
سقامُsickness فملَّso grew weary عائدهhis sickbed visitor
سقامُ فملَّ عائده
in lamentation; long has he suffered
Long has he been ill and frail,
from sickness, till his visitor grew weary.
His lamentation, it does not fail.
أرىI see الأيامthe days تكرهare loath أنto
أرى الأيام تكره أن
تقرِّبbring near منthe one who يباعدهkeeps away from him
تقرِّب من يباعده
I see the days are loath
I see the days abhor to avail
to bring near the one who keeps away from him.
One who from them does trail.
