O radiant one who has filled the eyes—
O rising sun, you have filled the horizons,
So their gaze cannot bear it;
So I gaze at them without blinking.
أَوفىsurpassed عَلىabove شَمسِsun الضُّحىthe forenoon
حتَّىuntil كأنَّas though الشمسَthe sun ظِلُّa shadow
Who outshone the forenoon sun,
More faithful than the morning sun,
Until the sun seemed a shadow.
As if the sun itself were but a shadow.

O adornment of the world, and one
O adornment of the world, he who
For whom dominion over humankind is but little,
Rules all people is so fickle.
لاdo not تقتلنِّيkill me بالجَفاءwith coldness
فإنَّfor indeed قَتليkilling me لاnot يَحلُّis lawful
Do not kill me with coldness,
Do not kill me with disdain,
For killing me is not lawful.
For surely my murder would not be lawful.
