تملكتَ يا مُهجَتي مُهجتي

تملكتَ يا مُهجَتي مُهجتي

وأسهرتَ يا ناظِري ناظِري

وأسهرتَ يا ناظِري ناظِري

You have taken possession of my soul, O my soul.

You have possessed, oh my passion, my passion

And you have kept my eye awake, O my eye.

And kept awake, oh my watcher, my watcher

وفيكَ تعلَّمتُ نظمَ القريضِ

وفيكَ تعلَّمتُ نظمَ القريضِ

فلقَّبني الناسُ بالشاعرِ

فلقَّبني الناسُ بالشاعرِ

And I learned to compose verse about you,

And through you I have learned the meters of verse

So people dubbed me “the poet.”

Thus people have dubbed me the poet
