ويصبرand bears patiently عنكbeing without you منwhoever ملكmasters الفؤاداthe heart
ويصبر عنك من ملك الفؤادا
لئنif indeed رزقhe is granted السلوforgetfulness كماas أراداhe wished
لئن رزق السلو كما أرادا
And whoever masters his heart can bear your absence,
He who owns my heart has patience with you
If indeed he is granted forgetfulness as he wished.
Though fate grants solace as it pleased
خليُّcarefree القلبthe heart لولاwere it not for طولlong duration وجديmy yearning
خليُّ القلب لولا طول وجدي
وهجركand your desertion كيفhow ملكتyou gained control of القياداthe reins
وهجرك كيف ملكت القيادا
Carefree one, were it not for my long yearning
My heart would be empty were it not for my longing
And your desertion, how would you have gained the reins?
How could you command my love so?
ألستare you not تنامyou sleep عنheedless of دمعٍtears وليلٍand a night
ألست تنام عن دمعٍ وليلٍ
طويلٍlong لاnot أغمضُهُI close my eyes during it سُهاداsleeplessness
طويلٍ لا أغمضُهُ سُهادا
Do you not sleep, heedless of tears and a night
Do you not sleep through a long tearful night
Long, through which I lie sleepless, never closing my eyes?
That I spend sleepless, crying for you?
ليهنكmay it gladden you أنَّthat حبكlove for you غيرnot فانٍperishing
ليهنك أنَّ حبك غير فانٍ
إذاwhenever ماemphatic particle زدتنيyou give me more فيin الهجرِestrangement زاداit grows
إذا ما زدتني في الهجرِ زادا
May it gladden you that love for you does not perish;
Reassure yourself that my love will not fade
Whenever you deepen your estrangement from me, it grows.
Though your estrangement makes it grow stronger
