نَمsleep خلياًcarefree فإنَّنيfor I am مُستهامُcrazed with love
نَم خلياً فإنَّني مُستهامُ
ليسَthere is no للهائمِfor the love-stricken الفؤادِheart مَنامُsleep
ليسَ للهائمِ الفؤادِ مَنامُ
Sleep carefree, for I am crazed with love.
Sleep, for I am sleepless,
There is no sleep for one whose heart is lost in love.
The anguished have no rest,
لكَyou have صبرٌpatience تسلُوyou find solace بهِthrough it ولقلبيwhile my heart has
لكَ صبرٌ تسلُو بهِ ولقلبي
حُرَقٌburning pangs مستديمةٌunceasing وغرامُand consuming love
حُرَقٌ مستديمةٌ وغرامُ
You have patience through which to find solace, while my heart has
You may find solace, while for me
unceasing burning pangs and consuming love.
There is a burning, endless love.
بعضَsome of ماwhat يُورثُbrings about الضناءَwasting sickness وحبيby my love
بعضَ ما يُورثُ الضناءَ وحبي
كَfor you لطَالَhas indeed lasted long الضَّنىwasting illness وأبلَىand has worn down السَّقامُsickness
كَ لطَالَ الضَّنى وأبلَى السَّقامُ
A little less of what brings wasting! By my love
Some of the grief my love begets
for you, wasting has indeed lasted long, and sickness has worn me down.
Is long endured, consuming me,
إنif تلُمهاyou blame it عيناًan eye بكتكَwept for you فَصِلهاthen draw near to it
إن تلُمها عيناً بكتكَ فَصِلها
ماno عليهاupon it وأنتَwhile you تَجفُوturn away مَلامُblame
ما عليها وأنتَ تَجفُو مَلامُ
If you blame an eye that wept for you, then draw near to it.
Rebuke those eyes that make you weep
No blame rests on it while you turn away.
Do not blame her, the blame is mine.
