Not like one whose eye does not sleep;
None like the sleepless, whose eyes
Blessed is he whose eye has tasted slumber.
Blessed is he who savored it, tasted it well

Sleep peacefully, for long slept
I sleep in comfort, so well and long I’ve slept
my eye, and its gaze did not weep in sorrow.
My eyes have never wept in sorrow
ياO لكِto you منof مقلةٍan eye وثقتُI trusted بهاin it
فأسلَمتنيthen it abandoned me لماwhen رأَتit saw حسناbeauty
Oh, what an eye you are, in which I placed my trust!
O heart in which I confided
Then it abandoned me when it saw beauty.
So you delivered me to what you saw as good
أشكوI complain إلىto اللَهGod لاnot إِلىto أحدٍanyone
منwhoever عذبَhas tormented اللَهGod بالهوىwith love فأناthen it is I
I complain to God, not to anyone:
To God alone I pour all my complaints
If God has tormented anyone with love, it is I.
For he who by passion is tormented, it's me
