بكىwept عاذليmy reproacher مِنout of رَحمةٍpity فرحمتُهُso I pitied him
بكى عاذلي مِن رَحمةٍ فرحمتُهُ
وكَمand how many مُسعدٍa sympathizer ليfor me فيin الهَوىlove ومُعينِand a helper
وكَم مُسعدٍ لي في الهَوى ومُعينِ
My reproacher wept out of pity, so I pitied him.
My blamer wept in pity, so I took pity on him,
And how many a sympathizer and helper I have in love!
Though many joyous ones I have in passion, and helpers,
ورقَّتand grew tender دموعُtears العينِof the eye حتَّىuntil كأنَّهاas though they were
ورقَّت دموعُ العينِ حتَّى كأنَّها
دموعُtears دموعيof my tears لاnot دموعُtears جُفونيof my eyelids
دموعُ دموعي لا دموعُ جُفوني
And the eye’s tears grew so tender that they seemed
And the tears of my eyes flowed until it was as if
The tears of my tears, not the tears of my eyelids.
They were the tears of my tears, not the tears of my eyelids.
