تعبدنيhe enslaved me أحورُdark-eyed الناظرِthe eye
فويلاهُso, alas! منfrom طرفهِhis glance الساحرِthe bewitching
A dark-eyed one has enslaved me.
The gazes of the beautiful worship me,
So, alas for his bewitching glance!
Woe to him whose charming glance,
وأورثنيand he bequeathed to me فترةًlanguor فيin العِظاthe bones (word continues)
مِ(completes 'bones') منfrom طرفهِhis glance الفاتِنِthe alluring الفاتِرِthe languid
And he left me with languor in my bones,
Has caused me periods of passion,
from his alluring, languid glance.
From his languid and charming glance,
يرىis seen مشرقُthe rising الشمسِof the sun فيin وجههِhis face
علىupon غصنٍa bough ناعمٍsupple ناضرِflourishing
The sun's rising is seen in his face,
The rising sun sees its image in his face,
upon a supple, flourishing bough.
On a delicate, fresh branch,
فياso, oh حُسنَbeauty أولهِhis beginning إنif بداit appears
لعينيto my eye وياand oh لذةَdelight الآخِرِthe end
So, oh, the beauty of his beginning, when it appears
Oh, the beauty of his first appearance to my eyes,
to my eye—and oh, the delight of the end!
And oh, the pleasure of the final glance!
