أماis there no مُسعِدٌone who comforts مَنone who بكىwept
Is there none to pity one who laments?
Does he who laments find compassion?
Is there none to comfort one who weeps?
Does he who weeps find bliss?
أماis there no حَكمٌjudge عادِلٌjust
إذاwhen جارَacted unjustly منthe one who مُلِّكاwas granted power
Is there no just judge
Is he just who is a ruler
when the one granted power acts unjustly?
If he oppresses whom he rules?
أياO هاجِريyou who forsake me ظالِماًunjustly
وليسَand it is not بِحِلٍّlawful لكاfor you
O you who forsake me unjustly,
Do not, oh you who are wronged, blame yourself
though that is not lawful for you!
You have done no wrong.
أتعجبُdo you marvel منat عَبرتيmy tear
وفيكَand through you عرفتُI came to know البُكاweeping
Do you marvel at my tears,
I wonder at my own tears
when it was through you that I came to know weeping?
When in you I have known weeping.
ألاah لَيتَنيwould that I were ميِّتٌdead

Ah, would that I were dead,
Oh, would that I were dead!
and oh, would that what ails me ailed you!
Would that the pain in me would cease!
