فإنso if تَكنyou are نائِياًfar away فَشوقيthen my longing
فإن تَكن نائِياً فَشوقي
إليكَtoward you حتَّىuntil المماتِdeath دانِnear
إليكَ حتَّى المماتِ دانِ
So if you are far away, my longing
If you are distant, then my longing
is near you until death.
For you until death remains loyal
أياO كثيباًa sand dune عليهِupon it شمسٌa sun
أيا كثيباً عليهِ شمسٌ
مُشرقةٌshining فوقَabove غُصنِa branch of بانِa bān tree
مُشرقةٌ فوقَ غُصنِ بانِ
O sand dune with a sun upon it,
O sand dune on which shines
shining above a branch of the bān tree!
A radiant sun above a branch of bān
لاno صبرَpatience عنديwith me ولاand no عزاءconsolation
لا صبرَ عندي ولا عزاء
عنكَapart from you إذاwhen غبتَyou are absent عنfrom عيانيmy sight
عنكَ إذا غبتَ عن عياني
I have neither patience nor consolation
I have no patience or consolation
without you, when you are absent from my sight.
