بَديعُwondrous الصنعِworkmanship منof حُسنِbeauty بَديعwondrous
بَديعُ الصنعِ من حُسنِ بَديع
حَميدُpraiseworthy الخَلقِform مَذموُمblameworthy الصَّنيعِconduct
حَميدُ الخَلقِ مَذموُم الصَّنيعِ
Wondrously fashioned, of wondrous beauty,
The work of the skilled is beautifully done
praiseworthy in form, blameworthy in deeds.
Praiseworthy in nature, blameworthy in deed
نَفَىbanished عنfrom طرفِeye عاشقهِhis lover مَناماًsleep
نَفَى عن طرفِ عاشقهِ مَناماً
ووكلَهُand charged it بإرسالِwith shedding الدُّموعِthe tears
ووكلَهُ بإرسالِ الدُّموعِ
He banished sleep from his lover’s eye
He denied his lover sleep
and charged it with shedding tears.
And tasked him with shedding tears
وَقدّand a figure فوقَهُabove it قَمَرٌa moon منيرٌradiant
وَقدّ فوقَهُ قَمَرٌ منيرٌ
قَليلُfew الشبهِequals ممتنعrefusing الطلوعِto rise
قَليلُ الشبهِ ممتنع الطلوعِ
And a figure with a radiant moon above it,
Above him was a bright moon
rarely matched, refusing to rise.
Bearing little resemblance, refusing to rise
تغيبهُhides him عنfrom الأبصارِsight عَينٌan eye
تغيبهُ عن الأبصارِ عَينٌ
ولكنand yet حبُّهُlove for him بينَbetween الضُّلوعِthe ribs
ولكن حبُّهُ بينَ الضُّلوعِ
An eye hides him from sight,
A spring keeps him from all eyes
yet love for him lies between the ribs.
But his love remains in my chest
