Why did you not bring a turtle-dove for me to rear,

Or a male turtle-dove to sing to me whenever I wished?

For it was not for righteousness and piety that you made the pilgrimage, nor

Out of fear of God, O Yahya ibn Wardan.

I was the vile one when they fastened their camel-litters,

During the days in Mecca—you are the sinner, the fornicator.
