أَعباسُO Abbas إِنَّindeed الَّذيthat which بَينَناbetween us
أَعباسُ إِنَّ الَّذي بَينَنا
أَبىwould not allow أَنthat يُجاوِزَهُoverstep it أَربَعُfour
أَبى أَن يُجاوِزَهُ أَربَعُ
O Abbas, truly, the bond between us
Abbas, indeed what is between us
is kept from being overstepped by four
Refused to be crossed by four
عَلائِقُties مِنof حَسَبٍancestral honor داخِلٍdeep-rooted
عَلائِقُ مِن حَسَبٍ داخِلٍ
معَalong with الأَلِّthe covenant النَسَبُthe lineage الأَرفَعُthe loftiest
معَ الأَلِّ النَسَبُ الأَرفَعُ
ties of deep-rooted honor,
Ties of noble lineage from within
together with the covenant and the loftiest lineage.
Along with the pain, the highest lineage
وَأَنَّand that ثَنِيَّةَthe mountain pass رَأسِthe summit of الهِجاinvective
وَأَنَّ ثَنِيَّةَ رَأسِ الهِجا
بينيbetween me وبينكand between you لاnot تطلعis climbed
بيني وبينك لا تطلع
And the mountain pass at the summit of invective
And that the bend in the head of estrangement between you and I does not rise
between me and you is not climbed.
And I hate that it comes to me
وَأَبغِضand how hateful إِلَيَّto me بِأَتَيانِهاapproaching it
وَأَبغِض إِلَيَّ بِأَتَيانِها
إِذاif أَناI لَمhave not أَنسَهاforgotten it أُدفَعُI am driven
إِذا أَنا لَم أَنسَها أُدفَعُ
And how hateful to me is approaching it!
When I do not forget it, I am pushed away
If I have not forgotten it, I am driven on.
