مزاجُكyour temperament للمَثْنَىfor the second string منof العودِthe lute والصَّبَاand the east breeze
منamong الرِّيحِthe winds والصّافيand the clear الرّحيقِthe pure nectar مِنَof الخَمْرِwine
Your temperament accords with the lute’s second string and the east breeze
Your mood is for pairs of lute and breeze,
Among winds, and with the clear, pure nectar of wine.
Of wind and clear wine’s perfume.
فَلَوْso if كُنْتَyou were نُوراًa blossom كُنْتَyou would be وِرْداًa rose مُضاعَفاًdouble
ولوand if كنتُI was طِيْباًperfume كُنْتَyou would be منof عَنْبَرِamber الشَّجَرِtrees
So if you were a blossom, you would be a double rose.
If you were light, you would be a doubled rose.
And if I were perfume, you would be of the amber of trees.
If I were scent, you would be the trees' ambergris.
ولوand if كنتُI was لَحْناًa melody كُنْتَyou would be تَأْلِيْفَa composition by مَعْبَدٍMaʿbad
ولوand if كُنْتَyou were عُوداًa lute ماnot افْتَقَرْتَyou would need إلىto زَمْرِpiping
And if I were a melody, you would be a composition by Maʿbad.
If I were a tune, you would be Ma’bad’s composition.
And if you were a lute, you would have no need of piping.
If you were a lute, you would need no playing.
