مَاwhat أَرْتَجِيI seek بِالرِّيَاضِin the gardens فِيْكَin you غِنًىsufficiency
عَنْهُنَّwithout them لِيfor me مَنْظَرَاًa sight وَطِيْبَand sweetness of جَنَىfruit
What do I seek in gardens? In you I have all I need,
I do not wish for gardens, for in you is sufficient bounty,
to do without them—a sight to behold and sweet fruit.
The sight of you is refreshing, your fruits are sweet.
قَالُواthey said تَرَوَّحْseek refreshment إِلَىto الجِنَانthe gardens وَمَاand not
يَدْرُونَthey know مَاwhat فِيin الجِنَانِthe gardens مِنْكَof you لَنَاfor us
They said, “Go to the gardens for refreshment,” yet
They say go tour the gardens, but they don't know,
they do not know what the gardens hold of you for us.
What the gardens contain for us from you.
أَدِيْرُI turn طَرْفِيmy gaze فَلاَand not أَرَىI see حَسَنَاًanything beautiful
إِلاَّexcept that أَرَىI see مِنْكَin you ذَلِكَthat الحَسَنَاthe beauty
I turn my gaze and see nothing beautiful
I turn my eyes, and see no beauty,
without seeing that same beauty in you.
Except I see that beauty coming from you.
يَاO شَمْسُsun وَجْهَاًin face وَيَاand O غَزَالَةُgazelle أَلْglances (first part)

O sun in face, O gazelle in
O sun-like face, O doe-eyed one,
glances, and branch-like in form when embraced!
O holder of staff erect and pressed.
بِيin me مِنْكَbecause of you مَاwhat لَوْif وَزَنْتُI weighed أَيْسَرَهُits slightest part
بِمَاagainst what عَلَىon الأَرْضِthe earth كُلِّهَاall of it وَزَنَاwould weigh as much
The least of what you stir in me, were I to weigh it
For me from you is what, if I were to weigh,
against all that is on earth, would match it in weight.
The easiest part with all that's on earth would outweigh.
لَوْif قِيْلَit were said مَنْwho أَحْسَنُthe fairest الأَنَامِof humankind وَمَنْand who
أَعْشَقُهُمْthe most in love of them قَلْتُI would say هَذِهِthis woman وَأَنَاand I
If asked, “Who is the fairest of humankind, and who
If it was said who's the best of mankind, and who
is most in love among them?” I would say, “This woman, and I.”
Do you love the most? I'd say this one, and it's true.
