Say to the fair one in the kohl-black veil,

Like the sun through gaps in the clearing clouds:

By the life of your beauty, be kind, and by the right of the one

Who made beauty yours alone, be gracious.

Do not accept the slanderers' words, for I

Have not heeded the reproachers' talk about you.

Indeed, I seek protection for you, lest what comes later cloud,

Through the slanderers' talk, the purity of what came first.
