Rain came to us, heralding ease,

unceasing in its downpour, swift in its gallop.

It judges by God's decree in all its judgments,

like an army, one part following another.

It smiles, revealing faintly pulsing lightning,

like a hand opening and closing.

It drew near, so we thought it just above the earth,

touching it along its length and breadth,

a lover confiding a secret to a lover.

Then it poured down like scattered pearls.

So the earth is unveiled in tender greenery,

in its red and white adornments:

of dusky irises and fresh roses,

    like cheeks marked by bites,

    and daisies like pure silver,

and tender narcissi, their breath richly fragrant,

like eyes drooping, about to close:

they gaze, and drowsiness veils them, so they close.
