ماذا تُلاقي كَبِدي

من غِلْظَةٍ في كَبِدِكْ

من غِلْظَةٍ في كَبِدِكْ

What suffering my heart endures

What my liver endures

from the hardness in your heart!

from the harshness in your liver!

يا ليتَ شِعْرِي ما الّذي

يا ليتَ شِعْرِي ما الّذي

أَبْقَيْتَ لي في خَلَدِكْ

أَبْقَيْتَ لي في خَلَدِكْ

Would that I knew what it is

Oh, would that I knew what

you have kept for me in your thoughts.

you have left for me in your mind.

تُرِيْدُ أَنْ تَقْتُلَني

تُرِيْدُ أَنْ تَقْتُلَني

ها أَنَا ذا طَوْعُ يَدِكْ

ها أَنَا ذا طَوْعُ يَدِكْ

You mean to kill me—

You want to kill me;

here I am, yielding to your hand.

here I am, at your hand’s command.
