ياO مُعْرِضاًone who turns away لاnot يلْتَفِتْlooks back
بِمِثْلِlike لَيْليmy night لاdo not تَبِتْspend the night
O you who turn away and do not look back,
O you who turn away unnoticing
Do not spend a night like mine.
Do not spend a night like mine
بَرّحَtormented هِجْرانُكَyour abandonment بيme
حتّىuntil رَثَىtook pity ليon me مَنْthe one who شَمِتْgloated
Your abandonment has tormented me,
Your abandonment has weakened me
Until even the one who gloated pitied me.
Even my enemies mourn for me
عَلًّقَتْyou hung قَلْبيmy heart بالمُنىupon hopes
فَأَحْيِهِso give it life أوor فأَمِتْso put to death
You hung my heart upon hopes;
My heart clings to its wishes
So give it life, or put it to death.
So either bring it life or end it
