    O amorous youth, love of you has struck a spark within my entrails,

    And settled there, making its home, and never left.

    غَرْبٌ يَسِيْحُ وما قِيْهِنَّ قَدْ قَرِحَا

    I complain to you of eyelids whose tears never dry—

    A flowing stream—and whose inner corners have grown sore;

    And of an emaciated frame that sickness has laid waste,

    Leaving nothing of it but its outline and mouth.

    Were it in one of two scale-pans, with no

    Counterweight in the other, it would not tip the balance.
