May God spare you the onset of ailments,

and may you attain, throughout your life, the farthest hope.

O master, every master is a follower

of yours, obedient in dismissal and official service.

And O secretary, eloquence bears witness

to your excellence, in detail and in sum.

People are dismissed and diminish; but you do not

diminish, O possessor of majesty and exemplary virtues.

Dismissal brings to light what came before:

your achievements that opened up the paths.

By God, you weary those who dismiss you, just as

a successor saddled with that task is put to shame

by one who restores what that man squandered; and this one

sought what you attained, but did not attain it.

    I—and no master is bashful,

nor is a friend ceremonious either—

attended yesterday what had been proposed

of dining on the partridge's successor.

So I kept seeking it diligently,

in the plains of its land and in the mountains,

until I hunted down what I have sent,

and the generous man is generous in small things and great.

Taking good omens from its plumage and from 'pilgrimage',

the pious act found in its opening letters.

And this is a friendly gesture, by which I followed

the paths of friends and retainers.

So if you graciously favor me by accepting it,

then this is a favor set apart for me.

    فَصُنْ رِسُولِي عَنْ ذِلَّةِ الخَجَلِ

    For in rejecting it lies a mispointed word;

so spare my messenger the humiliation of embarrassment.
