    وَالرُّوحُ مِنْ إِعْرَاضِهَا هَالِكَهْ

    Magic springs from her deadly words;

And the soul perishes from her turning away.

Tawny wine comes from her saliva,

And musk from her jet-black temple-locks.

A slave girl who rules—oh, who has seen

Anything fairer than a slave girl who is mistress?

Whoever has not seen pearls and their arrangement

On their thread, let him see her laughing.

She passes through the bodies of humankind,

    Where their souls pass.

Beauty has written on her cheek:

"You are the one who sheds all blood."
