حُبُّlove of عَلِيَّAli عُلُوُّloftiness of هِمَّهْpurpose
حُبُّ عَلِيَّ عُلُوُّ هِمَّهْ
لِأَنَّهُbecause he is سَيِّدُmaster of الأَثِمَّهْthe imams (probable intended reading; spelling unclear)
لِأَنَّهُ سَيِّدُ الأَثِمَّهْ
Love of Ali is loftiness of purpose,
Love of Ali is lofty in its concern
For he is master of the imams (probable intended reading).
For he is the master of the faithful clan
فَتِّشْexamine مُحِبِّيْهِthose who love him هَلْwhether تَرَاهُمْyou see them
فَتِّشْ مُحِبِّيْهِ هَلْ تَرَاهُمْ
إِلاَّexcept ذَوِيpossessors of ثَرْوَةٍwealth وَنِعْمَهْand blessing
إِلاَّ ذَوِي ثَرْوَةٍ وَنِعْمَهْ
Examine those who love him: do you find them
Search among his lovers, will you find
Other than people of wealth and blessing?
Except the wealthy and those blessed?
بِيْنَbetween رَئِيْسٍa leader إِلَىto نَفِيْسٍa man of rare worth
بِيْنَ رَئِيْسٍ إِلَى نَفِيْسٍ
قَدْindeed أَكْمَلَhas perfected الظَّرْفَrefinement وَاسْتَتَمَّهْand completed it
قَدْ أَكْمَلَ الظَّرْفَ وَاسْتَتَمَّهْ
From a leader to a man of rare worth,
From chieftain down to commoner
Who has perfected refinement and brought it to completion,
Perfect in merit, complete in qualities
وَطَيِّبِand one pure in الأَصْلِdescent لَيْسَthere is not فِيْهِin him
وَطَيِّبِ الأَصْلِ لَيْسَ فِيْهِ
عِنْدَat امْتِحَانِthe examination of الأُصُولِlineages تُهْمَهْsuspicion
عِنْدَ امْتِحَانِ الأُصُولِ تُهْمَهْ
And one of pure descent, free from
Of good stock, no blemish can be found
Suspicion when lineages are examined.
When lineages are examined for flaws
وَهُمْand they إِذَاwhen فُضِّلُواthey are preferred ضِيَاءٌlight
وَهُمْ إِذَا فُضِّلُوا ضِيَاءٌ
وَالنَّصْبُand hostility to Ali وَالنَّاصِبُونَand those hostile to him ظُلْمَهْdarkness
وَالنَّصْبُ وَالنَّاصِبُونَ ظُلْمَهْ
And when they are preferred, they are light;
They are radiance when given precedence
And hostility to Ali and those hostile to him are darkness.
While rivalry and rivals are but darkness
