أَتَّخِذُI take اللَّيْلَthe night جَمَلْa camel
مَاwhatever حُمِّلَis made to carry اللَّيْلُthe night حَمَلْit carries
I take the night as a camel.
I take the night as a camel
Whatever the night is laden with, it carries.
The night is not burdened with any load
واللَّيْلُand the night فِيْهِin it مُتْعَةٌpleasure
وَاللَّيْلُand the night أَخْلَىfreer of distractions لِلْعَمَلْfor work
And in the night there is pleasure.
The night contains pleasure
And the night is freer for work.
And the night leaves time for work
آمَنُI am safe from فِيْهِin it زَائِرَاًa visitor
يَشْغَلُنِيdistracts me عَنِfrom الشُّغُلْwork
In it I am safe from a visitor
In it I feel secure from visitors
who distracts me from work.
It distracts me from worldly cares
وَإِنْand if عَرَانِيovertakes me مَلَلٌboredom
نَفَيْتُI banish بِالرَّاحِwith wine المَلَلْboredom
And if boredom overtakes me,
And if boredom befalls me
I banish boredom with wine.
I dispel it with a gentle breeze
