وَاثَبْتُI sprang upon مَاءًwater فِيin أَدِيْمِa skin مَاءِwater
بَيْضَاءَwhite مِثْلَlike الفِضَّةِthe silver البَيْضَاءِwhite
I sprang upon water in a skin of water,
I kept water in a water skin
White as white silver,
White like white silver
ذَاتَpossessing حُلًىornaments وَمُقْلَةٍand an eye زَرْقَاءِblue
مُفْضِيَةstripping away اللَّحْمِthe flesh عَنِfrom الأَعْضَاءِthe limbs
Bearing ornaments and a blue eye,
With ornaments and blue eyeliner
With flesh stripped away from her limbs.
Exposing the flesh from the limbs
أَوْدَعْتُهَاI placed her أَجْوَفَa hollow thing ذِيpossessing الْتِظَاءِblazing
كَالصَّبِّlike the lovesick man مَطْوِيَّاًfolded عَلَىupon الجَفَاءِcruelty
I placed her in a hollow thing ablaze,
I placed it in the interior of the one with cover
Like a lovesick man, folded around cruelty,
Like melting lead over barrenness
يَضُمُّهَاhe clasps her ضَمَّاًtightly إِلَىto الأَحْشَاءِthe innards
ثُمَّthen ثَنَاهَاhe turned her عَنْهُaway from him بِانْثِنَاءِwith a bend
He clasps her tightly to his innards.
It embraces it to the gut
Then, with a bend, he turned her away from him,
Then bent it away with a bend
مُخْتَالَةstrutting فِيin حُلَّةٍa robe حَمْرَاءِred
كَأَنَّمَاas though بُزَّتْshe or it was stolen مِنَfrom الصَّهْبَاءِthe tawny wine
Strutting in a red robe,
Swaying in a red dress
As though it had been stolen from tawny wine.
As if it was clad with fawn fur
لَمْnot تَكُshe was إِلاَّexcept فُرْصَةَa prize البَيْدَاءِthe wilderness
She was only a prize of the wilderness.
It was nothing but a white spot
