صَاحِبٌa companion لِيof mine لَيْسَthere is not فِيْهِin him
خَلَّةٌa trait أَشْكُرُهَاI am grateful for it لَهْto him
I have a companion in whom there is no
A friend I have, in whom there is no flaw
trait for which I thank him.
That I could thank him for, overall
سَمِجٌrepulsive شَخْصَاًin appearance وَمَخْبُورَاًand as known through experience
وَتَفْصِيْلاًand in detail وَجُمْلَهْand as a whole
Repulsive in appearance and in character,
Dull in person, debased in core
and in detail and as a whole.
In details and the full score
كُلُّevery مَنْone who جَارَاهُcompetes with him فِيin مِضْracecourse (first part)
مَارِracecourse (second part) لُؤْمٍbaseness جَاءَcame قَبْلَهْbefore him
Everyone who races him on the racecourse
All who neighbored him in the course
of baseness comes in ahead of him.
Of misfortune's night before it wore
وَمُرِيْدٌand desiring مَنْwhoever أَبَاهُrejected him
وَمُهِيْنٌand humiliating مَنْwhoever أَجَلَّهْhonored him
And he desires whoever rejects him,
Were supplicant he'd then ignore
and humiliates whoever honors him.
And abased he'd then deplore
فَهْوَfor he كَالدِّيْنَارِlike the dinar لاَnot يُكْhe honors (first part)
رِمُhe honors (second part) إِلاَّexcept مَنْwhoever أَذَلَّهْdebased him
For he is like the dinar: he honors no one
He's like dinar money for sure
except whoever debases him.
Valued only by the meek and poor
