اسْتَبْعِدُI deem distant العَهْدَthe last meeting القَرِيْبَrecent لَهَاwith her
دَارِيmy dwelling (unclear here) اليَسِيْرthe little تُنِيْلُهُshe bestows it جَلَلاَimmense
I deem my recent meeting with her long past.
I distance the recent past from her
My dwelling [unclear in context]; the little she bestows is immense.
My humble abode grants it glory
لَوْif سَرَّهَاit pleased her قَتْلِيkilling me قَتَلْتُI would kill لَهَاfor her
نَفْسِيmy soul وَكُنْتُand I would be بِقَتْلِهَاat slaying it جَذِلاَjoyful
If killing me pleased her, I would kill for her
Had it pleased her to kill me, for her I'd have killed myself
My own soul, and be joyful at slaying it.
And been degraded by killing her
أَوْor لَوْif سَقَتْنِيshe gave me to drink السُّمَّthe poison أَشْرَبُهُI drink it
مِنْfrom كَفِّهَاher palm لَحَسِبْتُهُI would surely deem it عَسَلاَhoney
Or if she gave me poison and I drank it
Or had she given me poison to drink
From her palm, I would surely think it honey.
From her palm I'd have taken it for honey
