كَيْفَhow يَبْقَىsurvives مَنْone who يُعَرِّضُهُexposes him
لِلْمَنَايَاto death لَحْمُهُhis flesh وَدَمُهْand his blood
How can one survive, exposed
To death by his flesh and blood?
كَلُّevery شَيءٍthing فِيْهِin it صِحَّتُهُhis health
فِيْهِin it إِنْif مَيَّزْتَهُyou examine it سَقَمُهْhis sickness
Everything in which his health lies
Contains, if you examine it, his sickness.
فَالَّذِيso that which يَشْفِيْهِheals him يُمْرِضُهُmakes him ill
وَالَّذِيand that which يُحْيِيْهِgives him life يَحْتَرِمُهْcuts short his life
So what heals him makes him ill,
And what gives him life cuts his life short.
