مستهترٌobsessed بالرميwith archery واهٍweak عضُدُهْhis upper arm
مستهترٌ بالرمي واهٍ عضُدُهْ
يُطِيْعُهُobeys him القَلْبُthe heart وتَعْصِيْهِand disobeys him يدُهُhis hand
يُطِيْعُهُ القَلْبُ وتَعْصِيْهِ يدُهُ
Obsessed with archery, yet weak of arm;
His heart obeys him, but his hand disobeys him.
أحصنُsafest شيءٍthing حينwhen يرْميhe shoots طردُهhis quarry
أحصنُ شيءٍ حين يرْمي طردُه
كأنّهas though it were فؤادهُhis heart أوْor كَبِدُهُhis liver
كأنّه فؤادهُ أوْ كَبِدُهُ
The safest thing when he shoots is his quarry,
As though it were his heart or his liver.
