مُعْتَدِلٌwell-proportioned منin كُلِّevery أعطافِهِhis contours
مُسْتَحْسِنُlovely الإقْبَالِapproaching والمُلْتَفَتْand turning
Well-proportioned in every curve of his form,
lovely as he approaches and as he turns.
لَوْif قيسَتِwere compared الدُّنيْاthe world ولذاتُهاand its pleasures
بِساعَةٍwith an hour منof وَصْلِهِunion with him ماnot وَفَتْmeasured up
If the world and its pleasures were compared
with one hour of union with him, they would not measure up.
سُلِّطَتِwere unleashed الألْحاظُthe glances منهfrom him عَلَىupon
قَلْبيmy heart لوeven if أَوْدَتْdid away بهwith it ماnot اشْتَفَتْwere satisfied
His glances were unleashed upon
my heart; even if they destroyed it, they would not be satisfied.
واستعْذَبَتْand found sweet رُوحيmy soul هواهُlove for him فَمَاso not
تَسْلُوforgets ولاnor تَصْحُوsobers وَلَوْeven if أُتْلِفَتْwere destroyed
And my soul has found love for him sweet, so
it neither forgets nor sobers, even if destroyed.
