تأخّرْتَyou tarried حتىuntil كدَدْتَyou exhausted الرسولَthe messenger
وحتىand until سئمتُI grew weary منof الانتِظارِwaiting
You tarried until you exhausted the messenger,
and until I grew weary of waiting.
وَأَوْحَشْتَand you made desolate إخوانَكyour companions المُسْعَدِينَthe happy ones
وفجّعْتَهُمْand you bereaved them بِشَبَابِof the youth of النّهارِthe day
And you left your happy companions desolate,
and bereaved them of the day's youth.
وأحْرَقْتَand you burned بالجوعِwith hunger أحشاءَهُمْtheir entrails
بنارٍwith a fire تَزيدُis greater علىthan كلِّevery نارِfire
And you burned their entrails with hunger,
with a fire surpassing every fire.
فإنso if كُنْتَyou are تأمُلُhoping ألاnot to تُذَمَّbe blamed
فَأَنْتَthen you are وحقِّكَby your honor عينُthe very embodiment of الحِمَارِthe ass
So if you hope not to be blamed,
then, by your honor, you are a veritable ass.
