أَلَسْتَAre you not تَرَىyou see الظَّلاَمَthe darkness وَقَدْand already تَوَلَّىhas departed
وَعُنْقُودَand the cluster الثُّرَيَّاthe Pleiades قَدْalready تَدَلَّىhas hung down
Do you not see the darkness now departed,
Do you not see the darkness as it departs
and the cluster of the Pleiades hanging low?
And the grape cluster hangs low?
فَدُونَكَso take for yourself قَهْوَةًwine لَمْnot يَبْقَremain مِنْهَاof it
تَقَادُمُthe aging of عَهْدِهَاits vintage إِلاَّexcept الأَقَلاَّthe very least
So take this wine, of which nothing remains,
So make yourself a coffee untouched
after its long aging, but the merest remnant.
With only its stale grounds remaining
بَزَلْنَاwe tapped دَنَّهَاits wine jar واللَّيْلُwhile the night دَاجٍdark
فَصَيَّرَتِso it turned الدُّجَىthe darkness شَمْسَاًa sun وَظِلاَّand shade
We tapped its wine jar while the night was dark,
We approached it closely as night fell
and it turned the darkness into sun and shade.
And the gloom made a sun and shade
