فَحْمٌcharcoal أَنَارَتْshone نَارُهُits fire
فَحْمٌ أَنَارَتْ نَارُهُ
فَتَضَرَّمَتْthen it blazed فِيْهِwithin it حَرِيَقَاa blaze
فَتَضَرَّمَتْ فِيْهِ حَرِيَقَا
Charcoal—its fire shone,
I glow with fire within
then flared within it in a blaze.
And blaze in fervent heat
فَكَأَنَّهَاso it (the fire) is like وَكَأَنَّهُand it (the charcoal) is like
فَكَأَنَّهَا وَكَأَنَّهُ
سَبَجٌobsidian قَرَنْتَyou joined بِهِto it عَقِيْقَاagate
سَبَجٌ قَرَنْتَ بِهِ عَقِيْقَا
So the fire and the charcoal seemed
As though I and the flame
like obsidian to which you joined agate.
