أَصْبَحَhas become أَيْرِىmy penis لِلضَّعْفِfrom weakness مُنْضَمَّاshrunken
كَأَنَّمَاas though فِيْهِin it نَافِضُthe shivering fit الحُمَّىof fever
My penis has shriveled from weakness,
As though the shivering fit of fever were within it.
أَصْغَىdrooped وَأَشْفَىand verged عَلَىon الرَّدَىdeath سَقَمَاًfrom sickness
أَصَمُّdeaf عَمَّاto what أُحِبُّهُI love it أَعْمَىblind
It drooped and, from sickness, verged on death,
Deaf and blind to what I love.
قَدْindeed كَانَit was كَالزِّيْرِlike the treble string فِيin تَوتُّرِهِits tautness
فَانْحَطَّthen it sank حَتَّىuntil حَسِبْتُهُI thought it بَمَّاa bass string
Once it was as taut as a lute's treble string;
Then it sank until I thought it a bass string.
لَمْdid not يَبْقَremain فِيْهin it حَظٌّany pleasure تُؤَمِّلُهُshe hopes for it
سُعْدَىSuʿdā وَلاَnor تَسْتَلِذُّهُshe finds it pleasurable سَلْمَىSalmā
No pleasure remains in it to be hoped for
By Suʿdā, nor does Salmā delight in it.
