بالحرصِ في الرزقِ يَذِلُّ الفَتَى

بالحرصِ في الرزقِ يَذِلُّ الفَتَى

والصبرُ فيه الشَّرَفُ الشامِخُ

والصبرُ فيه الشَّرَفُ الشامِخُ

Through greed for livelihood, a young man is abased;

With diligence in livelihood the youth is humbled

And in patience lies lofty honor.

And patience in it is towering honor

ومستزيدٍ في طلابِ الغِنَى

ومستزيدٍ في طلابِ الغِنَى

يجمع لَحْماً ما لَهُ طابِخُ

يجمع لَحْماً ما لَهُ طابِخُ

And many a seeker of more in pursuit of wealth,

And one who seeks more in pursuit of wealth

Who gathers meat for which there is no cook,

Gathers meat that has no cook

ضَيَّعَ ما نَالَ بما يُرْتَجَى

ضَيَّعَ ما نَالَ بما يُرْتَجَى

والنار قد يُطْفِئُها النَّافِخُ

والنار قد يُطْفِئُها النَّافِخُ

Has squandered what he gained for what he hopes for;

He wasted what he attained with what he hopes for

And the one who blows on a fire may extinguish it.

And fire, a blower can extinguish it
