Do not think of weeping over the camp-ditch and tent rope,
nor greet the face of the encampment from close by.

Nor lavish a raincloud on al-Ghamim, nor
grant the oryx herd dripping, freely flowing tears.

A dwelling has faded, thus freeing from longing and grief
my heart; my return was to pleasures.

It is all one whether companions depart or remain there,

More splendid and lovelier than recalling camels, and than
endlessly recalling a love speeding away on a packsaddle,

and raising one's voice in lilting song amid rapture.

بالدوس فانتصفَتْ من أرؤُسِ العربِ
Foreigners' feet had wronged it
by trampling it; so it exacted redress from the Arabs' heads.

his glances are the strongest inducement to sin.
