تَبارَكَblessed is فاطرُthe Creator of القَمَرِthe moon اقتدارَاin might
تَبارَكَ فاطرُ القَمَرِ اقتدارَا
أصاغَكdid He fashion you صيغةَin the form of القَمَرِthe moon المُنِيْرِshining
أصاغَك صيغةَ القَمَرِ المُنِيْرِ
Blessed and exalted is the moon’s Creator in sovereign power!
Blessed in might is the Creator of the moon!
He fashioned you in the likeness of the radiant moon.
Did He fashion you in the form of the shining moon?
لَطُفْتَyou grew delicate فَجُزْتَso you surpassed حدّthe bounds of اللُّطْفِdelicacy حتىto the point that
لَطُفْتَ فَجُزْتَ حدّ اللُّطْفِ حتى
كأنكas though you were بعضُone of سكانِthe inhabitants of الأَثِيْرِthe ether
كأنك بعضُ سكانِ الأَثِيْرِ
So subtle were you that you passed refinement’s furthest bound,
You grew so delicate, surpassing delicacy's bounds, that
as though you were one of the dwellers in the ether.
you seemed one of the inhabitants of the ether.
فَضَحْتَyou put to shame الزّهْرَةَVenus الزَّهْرَاءِradiant نُوراًin brightness
فَضَحْتَ الزّهْرَةَ الزَّهْرَاءِ نُوراً
وقدْand indeed أزريتyou brought discredit بالشِّعْرَىupon Sirius العَبُورِthe Crossing Star
وقدْ أزريت بالشِّعْرَى العَبُورِ
You put radiant Venus to shame in brightness,
You put radiant Venus to shame in brightness,
and made even Sirius the Crosser seem paltry.
and you have indeed humbled Sirius, the Crossing Star.
وعالمُنَاand our world الصّغِيرُsmall أَقَلُّlesser قدراًin rank
وعالمُنَا الصّغِيرُ أَقَلُّ قدراً
ولكنّاbut we نَرَاكَsee you مِنَof الكَبِيْرِthe greater world
ولكنّا نَرَاكَ مِنَ الكَبِيْرِ
Our little world is lower in degree,
And our small world is lesser in rank,
yet we behold you as belonging to the greater world.
but we see you as belonging to the greater world.
ومنand whoever يشْنَاكَhates you أوor يَبْغِيْكَwishes you سوءاًharm
ومن يشْنَاكَ أو يَبْغِيْكَ سوءاً
ظلاميُّdark الطباعِby nature وأنْتَwhile you نُوريmy light
ظلاميُّ الطباعِ وأنْتَ نُوري
Whoever hates you or seeks you harm
And whoever hates you or wishes you harm
is dark by nature, while you are my light.

وقالand said عطاردُMercury كُنْbe ليto me نَظِيْراًan equal
وقال عطاردُ كُنْ لي نَظِيْراً
فَكُنْتَso you were لَهُto him أجَلَّmore exalted منthan النّظِيْرِan equal
فَكُنْتَ لَهُ أجَلَّ من النّظِيْرِ
Mercury said, “Be my peer,”
And Mercury said, "Be my equal,"
yet you stood too exalted to be his mere equal.
so you proved more than his equal.
كَمُلْتَyou attained perfection بَرَاعَةًin skill وجَمَعْتَand you combined ذِهْناًintellect
كَمُلْتَ بَرَاعَةً وجَمَعْتَ ذِهْناً
ومعرفَةًand knowledge بأَسْرارِof the secrets of الأمُورِthings
ومعرفَةً بأَسْرارِ الأمُورِ
You attained perfection in ingenuity and possessed a keen mind,
You attained perfection in skill and brought together intellect
and knowledge of the secrets of all things.
