وَيَرُمُّand he mends ظَاهِرَهَاits exterior بِبَاطِنِهَاwith its interior
And many a man struggles with a plight, setting it right,
And one who endures adversity correcting it
and mends its exterior with its interior.
And casts aside its façade with its essence
حَسَدَتْهُenvied him عَيْنٌan eye مِنْfrom تَأَمُّلِهَاcontemplating it

An eye envied him upon contemplating it,
An eye envied him from its contemplation
while compassion lay hidden in its recesses.
While gentleness is dormant in its retreats
وَإِذَاand when امْرُؤٌa man حَسُنَتْwas good مُرُوءَتُهُhis nobility of character

And when a man is noble in character,
And when a man of noble character
suffering lies hidden amid its fine qualities.
There is no pain in its virtues
فَمَحَاso erased غَضَاضَةَthe shame of سُوءِthe badness of مَخْبَرِهَاits inner state

So the shame of its poor inner state was erased
It wipes away the bitterness of its ill tidings
by envy's praise from its beholder.
The praise of jealousy from its insights
