ألَمْ تَرَ أنّ تكرارَ اللّيالي

ألَمْ تَرَ أنّ تكرارَ اللّيالي

يُفِيْدُ المرْءَ عِلْماً واخْتِبَارا

يُفِيْدُ المرْءَ عِلْماً واخْتِبَارا

Have you not seen that the recurrence of nights

gives a person knowledge and experience,

ويُصْقِلُ جَوْهَرَ الأَلْبَابِ حَتّى

ويُصْقِلُ جَوْهَرَ الأَلْبَابِ حَتّى

يصيرُ صُفْرَ معدِنِها نُضَارا

يصيرُ صُفْرَ معدِنِها نُضَارا

and polishes the substance of minds until

it turns the brass of their ore into pure gold?

فمِثْلُ ذَاكَ تَسْتَدْلِلْ عَلَيْهِ

فمِثْلُ ذَاكَ تَسْتَدْلِلْ عَلَيْهِ

بِلَيْلِ الشّعْرِ يَجْعَلُهُ نَهَارَا

بِلَيْلِ الشّعْرِ يَجْعَلُهُ نَهَارَا

So you may find evidence of the same

in the night of hair, which it turns into day.
