يَاO هِنْدُHind لاَdo not تُنْكِرِيdisapprove فِيin الأَرْضِthe earth مُضْطَرَبِيmy roaming
فَإِنَّمَاfor … only أَبْتَغِيI seek العَلْيَاءَeminence لِيfor me وَلَكِand for you
O Hind, do not disapprove of my roaming the earth.
O Hind, do not deny on earth my restless desire,
For I seek only eminence, for myself and for you.
For I only seek the exalted for me and you,
قَالَتْshe said أَرَاكَI see you حَثِيْثَswift السَّيْرtravel قُلْتُI said لَهَاto her
وَالْبَدْرُand the full moon أَيْضَاًalso حَثِيْثُswift السَّيْرِmovement فِيin الفَلَكِthe celestial sphere
She said, "I see you traveling swiftly." I said to her:
She said, "I see you travel hastily," I said to her,
"And the full moon, too, moves swiftly in the celestial sphere."
"The moon also travels hastily in its orbit."
وَقَدْand indeed مُنِيْتُI have been afflicted بِدَهْرٍby an age لَيْسَdoes not يُنْصِفُنِيtreat me fairly
وَمَاand not عَلِمْتُI have known لَهُfor it فِيin ذَاكَthat مِنْany دَرَكِredress
And I have been afflicted by an age that does not treat me fairly,
I have been afflicted with a time that does not do me justice,
And I know of no redress against it for that.
And I have not known it to have any flaw in that.
