ممّاamong what عُنِيtook pains بِصَنيعِهِover its making النَّجَّارُthe carpenter
And handmaidens were arrayed upon something with four legs,
And descriptions lined up on four legs
Among the things the carpenter took pains to fashion.
Of that which the carpenter took pains with his craft
وَسَمَتْand rose سُمُوّthe rising of الرّيحِthe wind فيin لَبّاتِهاtheir throat-hollows
فَتَحَيّرَتْso were bewildered فيat حُسْنِهاtheir beauty الأبْصَارُthe eyes
And at their throat-hollows they rose as the wind rises,
And reached the height of the wind in its folds
So eyes were bewildered by their beauty.
So eyes were confounded by its beauty
فكأنّماso as though آذانُهُنَّtheir ears صَوَالِجٌpolo mallets
وكأنّماand as though أقدامُهاtheir feet أقْمَارُmoons
So their ears seemed like polo mallets,
As though their ears were pendants
And their feet seemed like moons.
And their feet were moons
