مَاnot زَالَceased حَرُّheat الشَّوْقِof longing يَغْلِبُovercomes صَبْرَهَاher patience
حَتَّىuntil تَحَدَّرَflowed down دَمْعُهَاher tears الْمُتَعَلِّقُsuspended
The heat of longing kept overcoming her patience,
The burning heat of her longing still defeats her patience,
until her suspended tears rolled down;
Until her dangling tear descended.
وَجَرَىand flowed مِنَfrom الكُحْلِthe kohl السَّحِيْقِfinely powdered بِخَدِّهَاalong her cheek
خَطٌّa streak تُؤَثِّرُهُtrace it الدُّمُوعُthe tears السُّبَّقُracing
and from the finely powdered kohl flowed along her cheek
And from her thick kohl a line ran down her cheek,
a streak traced by the racing tears.
A line the pouring tears etch.
فَكَأَنَّso as though مَجْرَىthe course الدَّمْعِof tears حِلْيَةُan ornament فِضَّةٍof silver
فِيin بَعْضِهِpart of it ذَهَبٌgold وبَعَضٌand a part مُحَرَقُscorched
So the tears’ course seemed an ornament of silver,
So the tear's path seems like a silver ornament,
with gold in part of it, and another part scorched.
With some gold and some melted metal.
