مُتَبَرِّمٌ بغِنائِهِ
مستعذِبٌfinding sweetness لعَذَابِهِin his torment
مستعذِبٌ لعَذَابِهِ
Vexed by his singing,
Bitterly complaining of his song
Finding his torment sweet,
Feigning enjoyment of his torment

فَغَدا وراح لِمَا بِهِ
He deliberately forsook the love-stricken man,
He willfully abandoned the chief
So he went morning and evening, driven by what ailed him.
And so he came and went as he pleased
وكساهُand clothed him ثَوْبَthe garb مشيْبِهِhis gray hair

في عُنْفُوانِ شَبَابِهِ
And he clothed him in the garb of gray hair,
Cloaking him in his dotage
In the prime of his youth.
In the prime of his youth
